The finest technicians and engineers in the business British Airways Engineering is one of the world's leading aircraft maintenance businesses. Not only do we provide full support for the entire British Airways fleet (over 300 aircraft making an average of 1,000 flights a day), we also serve a number of other international airlines including many of our alliance partners. When an aircraft part needs servicing or repairing, it will almost certainly come to one of our Heathrow based workshops. Our remit covers all mechanical components for the aircraft in our fleet, from the smallest fuel pump to an engine cowling or the leading edge of a wing. Our work impacts on the airline in a number of critical areas. First, and most important, is our contribution to British Airways' excellent safety record. Standards here are amongst the highest in the world and we have become a respected voice within the aviation industry. Our extensive experience of seeing components in use enables us to suggest design improvements to manufacturers. Increasingly our engineers, many of whom are world experts in their field, are becoming involved in the design process itself. We also make a huge contribution to the airline's profitability. Our managers engage in complex procurement decisions to choose component suppliers, weighing up the different technical and commercial considerations. However, most of our work is about repairing and servicing components, and in recent years we have achieved significant improvements in turnaround times. With even small components costing several hundred thousand pounds, the potential cost savings are enormous. We support the entire British Airways fleet, a range that covers the Airbus A320 and A319, the Boeing 737, 747, 757, 767 and 777. In addition, around 30 per cent of our business is dedicated to other airlines. Increasingly, more and more carriers are entrusting their aircraft components to us, confident that they are in the hands of the finest technicians and engineers in the business. |
