| The best way to examine an airline's commitment to safety, is through assessing the quality of its flight training. Not only is the training that our flight and cabin crews receive envied all over the world, we are also approached by many other carriers to train their crews. Flight Training is responsible for providing aircraft type conversion courses and ongoing training for our flight crew, as well as those working for other customers. We also train our cabin crew in Safety and Emergency Procedures (SEPs), and provide technical training for British Airways Engineering. For safety and cost reasons, almost all training takes place in simulators. We have 17 flight simulators at our Cranebank training facilities outside Heathrow, and a Concorde simulator near Bristol. There are further cabin simulators and engineering training simulators, as well as classrooms equipped with PCs and CD-ROMs for computer based training. The professionals who deliver this training bear a huge responsibility to everyone within British Airways and to all our customers. Having reached the top of their respective fields, they are inspired by the notion of passing on their skills and expertise to the next generation of the airline community. Since 1998, Flight Training has operated as an autonomous profit centre within British Airways. In addition to our training staff and the technical professionals who support them, there are management and business development opportunities within Flight Training, as well as many of the support functions to be found in any large business. |
